How to download a Vimeo video in 3 steps
- Copy the link. On vimeo.com, copy the address from the browser bar, or use Share under the player and copy the link. In the Vimeo app, tap Share, then Copy link. It looks like vimeo.com/123456789.
- Paste it in the box above and tap Get video. You see the cover, the title, the creator and every size Vimeo has for that video, each with its real size in pixels and an estimated file size.
- Pick a size and tap Download MP4. The biggest one is selected for you. The file saves with sound, as a normal MP4 that phones, laptops, TVs and editing apps open.
No app, no browser extension, no sign-up and no Vimeo account of your own.
What quality you get: up to 4K
On 28 October 2026 we tried 20 public Vimeo videos: short films, documentaries, music videos and Vimeo's own videos. 19 of 20 opened and saved; the other one had been removed from Vimeo. Unlike some video sites, Vimeo gives us the full quality the creator uploaded:
| What we tested | Result |
|---|---|
| Videos that opened | 19 of 20 (1 was removed) |
| Up to 4K (3840×2160) | 9 of 20 |
| Up to 1080p (or 1080 wide for vertical videos) | most of the others |
| Older uploads | 546p to 720p at most |
| Picture and sound | H.264 video + AAC sound, joined into one MP4 |
| Time to read a video | 7 to 14 seconds |
The list in the box always shows the sizes that video really has. If 4K is missing, the creator did not upload it in 4K. Picture and sound arrive as separate streams; we join them into one MP4 without re-encoding, so nothing is lost and nothing is added. H.264 plays everywhere, so there is no conversion step.
How big will the file be?
Vimeo films are often long and sharp, so the files can be big. These are the sizes Vimeo's own bit-rates point to:
| Video | 4K | 1440p | 1080p | 720p | 360p |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 13 min 25 s short film | about 2 GB | about 908 MB | about 454 MB | about 228 MB | about 75 MB |
| 7 min 11 s documentary | not uploaded | not uploaded | about 272 MB | about 138 MB | about 45 MB |
How long a download takes
We saved real files on our server on 28 October 2026:
| Video | Size picked | File | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 min 11 s documentary | 1080p | 272.9 MB | about 1 minute |
| 13 min 25 s short film | 720p | 228.1 MB | about 6 minutes |
Vimeo sends some videos much faster than others, so the time depends on the video more than on its length. The progress bar shows how far it is. Both files came out as one MP4 with H.264 picture and AAC sound, exactly the size Vimeo's bit-rates predicted.
On a phone, 1080p or 720p is usually the best choice: sharp on the screen and a quarter of the 4K size. Pick 4K when you edit or watch on a big screen. Use Wi-Fi for anything over a few hundred MB.
Which Vimeo links work?
| Link looks like | What it is |
|---|---|
| vimeo.com/123456789 | A public video |
| vimeo.com/123456789/abc123def4 | An unlisted video (the link includes its secret part) |
| vimeo.com/channels/name/123456789 | A video inside a channel |
| vimeo.com/groups/name/videos/123456789 | A video inside a group |
| player.vimeo.com/video/123456789 | The player built into another website |
A showcase (vimeo.com/showcase/…) or an album is a list of videos: open one video, then copy its link. Profile pages are not videos either.
Why can a video not be saved?
| What you see | Why it happens | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "This video needs a password" | The creator protected it with a password | Ask the creator for a copy |
| "This video is private or can only be watched on certain websites" | The creator limited where it plays (private, or embed-only on their own site) | Watch it where the creator shares it, or ask them |
| "This video was removed or the link is wrong" | The video was deleted, or a character is missing from the link | Copy the link again from the video page |
| "That link has no single video" | You pasted a showcase, album or profile | Open one video and copy its link |
| "Vimeo did not open this video for us right now" | Vimeo was slow or refused a request for a moment | Wait a minute and press Get video again |
| "This video is copy-protected (DRM)" | Vimeo encrypts some videos' streams (its own promo videos, for example) | Nothing can save these; watch it on Vimeo |
| No 4K in the list | It was not uploaded in 4K | Pick the biggest size shown |
Vimeo's own Download button vs this tool
Vimeo has a Download button on some videos. Vimeo's help page explains that it appears only when the video's owner has turned downloads on, and that you must be signed in to Vimeo to get a public video's original file. When the button is there, it is the best way to save the video: you get the creator's own file.
| Vimeo's Download button | Tube Snip | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | Videos whose owner turned downloads on | Any public or unlisted video you have the link to |
| Vimeo account | Needed for the original file | Not needed |
| File | The creator's original or Vimeo's copies | The streaming version, joined into one MP4 |
| Sizes | The ones the owner allows | Every size Vimeo streams, up to 4K |
If the owner turned downloads off, they chose not to share the file. Read the section on rights below before you save it.
Tube Snip vs other Vimeo downloaders
We read the most visible Vimeo downloaders on their own pages on 28 October 2026:
| Tool | Quality it promises | Says plainly what you will get | Free 4K | MP3 (audio only) | Sign-up |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tube Snip | Every size Vimeo has, up to 4K | Yes: real pixel sizes and file sizes before you save | Yes, when the video has it | Not yet | Never |
| SaveTheVideo | "The best quality" | Not stated on the page | Points to a paid app for "4K/HD" bulk downloads | Says it saves audio | Not needed |
| Klipa | "Good quality" free, "HD or 4K depending on the source as a paid unlock, video by video" | Has quality FAQs | No, HD and 4K are paid | Yes | "No sign-up required" |
| Moimobi | MP4, quality "when available" | Not stated | Not stated | Says it has MP3 options | "No login required" |
SaveTheVideo's page is mostly the download box and an advert for desktop software. Klipa is the only one that says up front that HD costs extra. We would rather show you the real sizes and keep every size free (within 20 downloads an hour). If you only need the sound, Tube Snip has no Vimeo MP3 button yet: save the MP4 and play it in any music player.
Is it legal to download Vimeo videos?
Downloading a video does not make it yours. On Vimeo the owner decides whether viewers may download, and a missing Download button usually means they chose not to. Save videos you made, videos released under Creative Commons (many Vimeo creators use it, and the licence shows under the video), or videos the owner has allowed you to keep. Use what your local law allows, like private study or quoting a short part in a review, and never upload someone else's video as your own. If you are not sure, ask the creator: most Vimeo creators can be reached from their profile.
On phones and computers
- iPhone and iPad: open this page in Safari, paste the link, tap Download MP4. The file is in the Files app → Downloads; tap Share → Save Video to move it to Photos. H.264 plays in Photos as it is.
- Android: use Chrome. The MP4 goes to Files → Download and shows up in the gallery.
- Windows, Mac, Chromebook: any modern browser works. The MP4 lands in your Downloads folder and opens in VLC, Photos, QuickTime, Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve and every other editor.
Videos from other sites
The same box works for other platforms, each on its own page: the YouTube video downloader (up to 4K), the Dailymotion video downloader, the Facebook video downloader and the Instagram reels and video downloader. To keep only the sound of a YouTube video, use YouTube to MP3.

Questions about this tool
Is this Vimeo downloader free?
Yes. You can save up to 20 videos an hour for free, in every size the video has, 4K included. You do not need a Vimeo account or a Tube Snip account. Free pages show labelled ads; paid plans have none.
Can I download Vimeo videos in 4K?
Yes, when the video was uploaded in 4K. In our test of 20 public videos, 9 had 4K. The box lists the sizes each video really has before you save it.
Do I need a Vimeo account to download?
No. Paste the link and save. Vimeo's own Download button needs an account and only shows when the owner allows downloads.
Can I download private or password-protected Vimeo videos?
No. Unlisted videos work when you have their full link; password-protected, private and copy-protected (DRM) videos cannot be saved.
Why is there no 4K or 1080p option?
The creator did not upload the video in that size. Older Vimeo videos often stop at 720p.
What format is the file?
An MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, so it plays on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, smart TVs and in every editor without conversion.
Does it work with player.vimeo.com links?
Yes. Links from videos built into other websites work, as do channel, group and unlisted links.
Can I download a whole Vimeo showcase or album?
Not yet. Paste one video link at a time.
Can I save a Vimeo video as MP3?
Not yet. Save the MP4: any music player can play its sound.
Is downloading Vimeo videos legal?
It depends on the video and what you do with it. Save your own videos, Creative Commons videos or videos the owner allows you to keep, and never upload someone else's video as your own.
